Gay Marriage Endorsement of the Day: Colin Powell jumped on the gay marriage bandwagon today with an endorsement during an interview with Wolf Blitzer:
I have no problem with it, and it was the Congress that imposed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” though it was certainly my position and my recommendation to get us out of an even worse outcome that could have occurred, as you’ll recall. But as I’ve thought about gay marriage, I know a lot of friends who are individually gay but are in partnerships with loved ones, and they are as stable a family as my family is, and they raise children. And so I don’t see any reason not to say that they should be able to get married.

leftybegone asked: I know it doesn't negate whatever good he did by sitting on his butt. It's just fun to point out his sick mind. He also was a hypocrite, though. His wife got a deadly disease for which there was a medicine to cure, but Gandhi wouldn't permit her to take the medicine, instead telling her to pray to whatever their god is for healing. Well, she died. Then Gandhi got sick and decided prayer wasn't good enough for him. So he took the medicine.
I know, I’ve read. You make “sitting on his butt” sound like the epitome of the good he did; not to sound like a hippie, but war isn’t always the only answer, nor is it even the best one in a lot of cases. Yes, he was a hypocrite and apparently a pedophile too, both condemnable acts, his good deeds don’t excuse them, and despite what he accomplished pedophilia should not go unpunished. I’m merely saying you can’t discredit someone’s work, their greater good, because they had a “sick mind”. Even Hitler’s good deeds shouldn’t be overlooked, though in no way am I excusing the evil he spread. A person, no matter how good or bad, is still a person and should be looked at as a full complete person. Throwing around those facts about Gandhi in that manner is enlightening and interesting to some, but mostly it is careless. While everyone should know these things, pointing an accusatory finger in the way that you did is no way to handle it. Just because you have a right to freedom of speech does not mean you are free of the responsibility that comes with the weight of the words you say. Unless you want a militant nation I suggest you not go around impressing on people that one of the few, great, well-known pacifists is not worth listening to.
It’s a savage religion based on military conquest. The Middle East was once the most advanced region in the world, it’s almost sad they’re stuck a few hundred years behind Europe and Asia. They’re Bronze Age barbarians. I’d argue that the Islamic Middle East was actually never more advanced than anywhere else, but the fact that it was a trade center allowed for the other cultures to invest and invent there.
I hope there’s no pun intended with that “trade center” remark given what their religion did to our trade center.
Oh, you’d have to be an idiot to not think the attack on the World Trade Center was supposed to be symbolic.
Yeah…. it was an attack not only on freedom and civilization but on capitalism which like the socialists and liberals, the Islamofascists truly hate.
Hmm… Savages… Where have I heard that before… Oh, right, that was the reason we wiped out the Native Americans. You really believe you’re better than everyone else don’t you? Cultures aren’t on a scale of best to worst, cultures aren’t to be graded like there’s a standard, because there is no standard. To look down on these people simply because they aren’t like you does not make you better than them. You don’t like being stereotyped as white privileged racist misogynists? Well maybe you should stop stereotyping whole other cultures first. When you look at cultures and compare them to your own of course you’re going to choose your own, it’s where you grew up, it’s your home, your people, your language, your family, there is no impartiality, you are going to overlook your flaws and see only your virtues and then you are going to judge them based only on the bad things a portion of them have done. Let’s face it, America is just as fucked up, Christians are just as violent. The only reason we’re more technologically advanced than they are right now is because when both religions tried to suppress the progress of science, the Christians failed. We would be exactly where they are right now if the dark ages had not ended and scientists succeeded. Oh you like to use Tumblr to voice your opinion? Thank science for that, if it weren’t for rebelling against the church you wouldn’t be on Tumblr right now either.
Gandhi: What an Asshole
Fair warning: Liberals, cover your eyes!
Gandhi had underage girls give him enemas, and he gave them enemas in return.
You act like this negates all the good he did… If we discredited everybody that wasn’t absolutely pure and perfect we would have no examples of what is good and what to follow, WWJD can only get you so far, and even then India isn’t a Christian nation. This is pretty disturbing, Gandhi obviously had some serious issues, but you can dig up dirt on just about anyone, it shouldn’t lessen the good they’ve done, and nor should the good they’ve done lessen the bad, you have to take the good with the bad, not one or the other.
Street Art By BR1
Indeed wonderful art, but contradictory to the appearance of the images, they are not in a Muslim country, but in BERLIN, Germany. (Photos taken in Oct. 2011).
THATS in GERMANY?????? God help that country.
I don’t understand what’s wrong with having Muslim street art in Germany? I think these women are beautiful and it’s a lot better graffiti than the gang stuff you see around here. I’m not trying to condone vandalism, but still, it could be a lot worse.

why does saying white pride automatically make you a white supremacist, yet saying (insert race) pride does not make you a supremacist of said race?

Because hating on white folks, even regular every-day white people whose ancestors have never even seen a slave let alone owned one, is the cool, hip thing to do, apparently. It makes people feel all warm and tingly inside when they have faux sympathy with the struggles of poor minorities against the evil, child-eating oppression of the white man. It’s all about emotion and hypocrisy. They do it not because they truly want to help minorities-but because it makes them feel good acting like they do.
And, I agree, if having pride is good for one race or sexual orientation, it should be good for all of them.
But that would make too much sense and doesn’t ensure the proper number of votes come election time.

One of the few things I’ll agree with… I don’t believe white people are being oppressed or that we’re the victims of racism, but double standards still suck. My “race” hasn’t had the best rep. I’m not allowed to be proud of my heritage because we’re mostly remembered for all that we’ve done wrong and saying white pride is like the equivalent of saying you’re proud of all of that cruelty when really that’s not what it should mean at all. I feel we get the most shit not just because of what we’ve done in the past but what we are still doing. I shouldn’t be punished for what my great grandfather did, nor should you be punished for the color of your skin because it’s something neither of us can control, but if I sit idly by while you are still struggling then I can understand your anger, even if that anger solves nothing, helps no one. I realize there are still issues of color, and that I have it easy, I’m privileged, and I do not want or expect anyone’s sympathy because I don’t deserve it, I’m merely pointing out that racial tension goes both ways and that blaming white people for everything whether they are to blame or not does not solve the issue and will only distance them from your cause. Instead of saying “it’s your fault I have to live like this”, and expect help and sympathy you should really just ask for help. You attract more flies with honey than with vinegar. This is in no way meant to be condescending, or to suggest you give up your pride. I am disappointed in my race as well, but I am not sympathetic with your plight because I am white, I do not care about your issues because I feel guilty, I care because you are human and so am I and you do not deserve what you have been put through, especially while some have it so easy. It’d be great if you could stop being so angry at the unfairness of the world long enough to realize that there are people who care, people who want to help, and it shouldn’t matter what the color of their skin is anymore than it matters what yours is. Race is a social construct - it has meaning because we give it meaning.

People actually think that Jonny’s British?
Really really?
I can only hope it’s because of The Tudors.
But really. He’s Irish people. There’s a difference. [All of this ^]
Sadly they do.
I hope people get confused mostly cause of The Tudors, but I have seen people comment on his Dublin accent and then state how much they love men from Britain/UK in the same breath.
Well they could also be confused in that Northern Ireland is part of the UK. UK doesn’t mean just England, so they could just be assuming all of Ireland is part of the UK, like I thought before I wiki’d it. He’s not English, but if you’re from Northern Ireland you are British as well as Irish. And all of Ireland used to be part of Great Britain, I dunno when that changed, but apparently we Americans seem to not have noticed.
I know, I covered all of that in the original post. But the Republic of Ireland has been a free country since 1922, to answer your questions.
Oh woops, didn’t realize there was an original post. My mistake.
Today I walked into Starbucks and told them I didn’t need their service anymore.
The stupid hipster girl at the counter was surprised and asked me: “Did I do something wrong??” and I said “No but your company did. they are attacking traditional marriage”.
I paid for my coffee and right in front of everyone, I opened the cup and poured it in the garbage can.
Screw you Starbucks. I will NOT support your crusade against Christianity and traditional marriage!!!!
What the flying fuck. Haha I hope this is satire because if not this person is retarded.
“I PAID for my coffee” - Drink it or not, you still paid for it dumb ass.
Hmm - traditional marriage you say? You mean between a slave owner and his slave girl? Or between a man and his harem? Or between a man and his property that happens to be female with a vagina? If you’re a girl and want a traditional marriage just go quit your job right now, have as many kids as you can, and get back in the kitchen, and you better not even think of divorcing him, even if he cheats on you and beats you, oh and don’t complain if he leaves you/stones you because you got raped. You have your right to your traditional marriage, no one is stopping you. If you’re a man and want a traditional marriage well… No big surprise there - fuck ALL the ladies!!! Amiright?! Because male fidelity doesn’t mean shit in a traditional marriage. Haha don’t make me name names. Either way, NO ONE IS STOPPING YOU. But YOU are stopping real people, you are discriminating against people with lives and futures and hopes and feelings and fears and dreams, you are trying to force your idea of marriage onto other people and that’s not okay, THAT is infringing on other people’s rights, their unalienable right to the pursuit of happiness that does not affect you whatsoever. Fuck you, you leviticus-misusing, wannabe-victim. When you aren’t allowed to do something because of the color of your skin, because of who you love, because of what does or does not dangle between your legs, because of what God(s) you believe in you should be able to understand the suffering of this oppression. I don’t want to hear about your fail attempts at supporting a cruel and hateful cause. Open your eyes to all the hate you are filled with towards people simply because of who they are, simply because they are not how you want them to be. “Crusade against Christianity”? BAH, you sit on a throne of delusions. America is NOT a Christian nation, America is an EVERYTHING nation, if you don’t like it you can GTFO.

n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.
The dictionary of obscure sorrows delivers again.
I get this realization kind of a lot, I love it, it’s eye opening, it’s an amazing, humbling, beautiful thing.
